Buying your first house brings home the importance of good foundations. This can be easily overlooked when initially impressed by the exterior and cosmetics. As a young married couple, we were wisely counseled to survey the structure and surroundings before parting with our life savings.
This reminds me of the parable of the two builders at the end of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 7:24-29). We are called to be wise and build our lives on Christ and His Word. In the latest issue of awmlink, you will read how this sure foundation is an anchor for Syrian believers, as well as new workers adapting to culture shock.
I am sure that my new house will stand the test of time. But ultimately my confidence for the future – for both this life and the next – is placed in someone far more reliable. In the words of the well-known hymn, ‘On Christ the solid Rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.’
